The biannual WTA General Assembly reviews the major policies and business activities of the WTA, and authorizes action on issues based on the WTA statutes. It is the top-level decision making organization, and is in session in different continents on a rotating basis. Other WTA meeting such as the Mayors Forum, University President Forum, and Executive Board are held in conjunction with the General Assembly

Being hosted in the Americas, the WTA will propagate enthusiasm in central and south America.
Planning for the 4th General Assembly which will be hosted in Uppsala (Sweden/Europe) / Rotation of
hosting duties to each continent in turn for the sake of voluntary participation of the universities in local
development, WTA University Presidents Forum was made an official General Assembly program; adopted
the Monterrey Declaration. |

- Major Accomplishments:
Being hosted at Brisbane (Australia), WTA will propagate enthusiasm in Oceania.
Brisbane accord, signed by 11 mayors at the official residence of the governor of Queensland, was accepted
- with the prospect of 60% of the world’s population residing in urban areas in the near future, the subsequent
problems in traffic, environment, and development, etc will be jointly dealt with.
- WTA will contribute to the necessities of urban resources management and the urban development based on
knowledge through the case studies of the best urban projects; information will be shared and mutual
study will be made to boost the member cities’ capabilities in science and to generate mutual benefit as well.

Support measures were sought in an unofficial contract with the representative of UNESCO to promote
underdeveloped countries’ participation in the WTA, for example exemption from membership contributions. |

(UNESCO, ISESCO, IASP, ASPA, etc.) in 30 countries
- Major Program : Executive Board Meeting, Mayors Forum, International Conference, University Presidents Forum,
UNESCO-WTA Workshop, etc.
- Major Accomplishments:
The main session was joined by VIP guests such as the vice minister of the ministry of education and
science of Kenya, the governor of Benue province, Nigeria and mayors of member cities.
Through international business, WTA will contribute to the mutual economic benefit between the member cities.
MOU concerning the Kenyan national demonstration science park development was signed.
MOU concerning the construction of optical fiber broadband network(Fiber to the premises) between Daejeon metropolitan city and Brisbane was signed.
MOU concerning the construction of the Global bio-net between Daejeon metropolitan city, Heidelberg
and Uppsala was signed.
Hi-tech exhibitions from 28 leading companies, investment fair and technological consultation (535 cases) were
held.

Being hosted in Hsinchu, Chinese Taipei, WTA will propagate enthusiasm in Asia. As a result of the
constant efforts to broaden the scope of its actives and expand collaboration with cities and potential
institutes, the number of WTA members has increased to 77members from 39 countries including 4 new members.
