The International Astronautical Congress (IAC 2006) was held in Valencia, Spain from 2 - 6 October 2006. Daejeon was chosen as the hosting city of 60th 2009 IAC
Each year the International Astronautical Federation (IAF) in collaboration with the International Academy of Astronomical (IAA) and the International Institute of Law (IISL) - organizes an International Astronautical Congress (IAC). The IAC is held in different countries of the world with an IAF member organization serving as its host. In recent years the event attracted each year more than 2000 participants including between 1000-1500 full paying participants and approximately 500 students and young professionals. The IAF was seeking proposals from IAF member organizations interested in serving as the host of the 60th IAC which will be held in 2009.
This exciting annual congress is the major space event of the year, bringing together some 2000 international specialists, captains of industry, and world leaders in the field. It provides a crossroad uniting all the world＇ s space agencies, astronautics institutes, aerospace scientific associations and the industrial firms involved in space activities.
It will be a rare opportunity for a local government to have such an international event that will bring tremendous impact on the local economy.
The hosting of IAC provides a foot step forward not only in fierce competition between international convention industry, but also initiates to bring in development of domestic and overseas aerospace industry.
